Continuing the process, rethinking some early choices, and trying to escape the Twitter bots and pervs.
When I started seriously exploring nudism/naturism in the summer of 2021, I opted for Coming Out Nudist as the title of my publication and @comingoutnudist as my Twitter handle.
A few months into that initial foray into the world of naturism, I stepped back for a while to re-assess and took everything offline for a time while I considered just how committed I was to living a naturist life.
Fast-forward to the summer of 2022, and after a year of testing the naturist waters, I came to the conclusion that this was indeed part of who I was. I brought back the Twitter account and this publication and committed to posting regular updates about the journey I was on.
Nudist vs. Naturist
At the time, I stuck with the Coming Out Nudist publication title and Twitter handle, but I found myself identifying more with the ideals of naturism than with just nudism. The naturist values around respect for self, others and the environment really resonated with me and led me to some deeper thinking about how I live my life and my impact on the world and those around me.
I’ve also been openly struggling with managing the dozens of people that were following me on Twitter every day who were looking for something I am most definitely not providing, or remotely interested in. The sheer amount of porn or sex-obsessed men and women (or bots) pushing Only Fans accounts was overwhelming.
I figured that having the words nudist and nudism in my Twitter username and profile might be part of the reason for this, so I started to look for a new username that better described who I am and what my newsletter is all about.
I settled on @goingnaturist which is similar enough to my old handle while getting rid of the nudist word. I think “going naturist” does a nice job in framing things, and I’m actually happy to have the “coming out” phrase removed since I never thought that equating becoming a naturist with coming out of the closet was all that great.
I’ve changed the name of my newsletter and the Substack URL. Fortunately, Substack handles redirects from the old URLs to the new ones which is handy. I’ll hang on to the old domains until they expire (www.comingoutnudist.com and www.comingoutnaturist.com), but officially, I’m moving to www.goingnaturist.com which will redirect people here.
I’ll talk more about the plans for the newsletter in the future, but expect a continuation of the kind of content I’ve been posting over the last few months at the same cadence of about a post a week. I have no plans right now to go to a paid model or to hide any posts behind a paywall.
Lastly, I want to say thanks for reading and subscribing! I’ve been overwhelmed with the number of people who have signed up and also with the shares of some of my recent posts by other newsletter authors like BOPBadger at “A Comfort of Naturists” and Jillian Page at “The Naturism Community”. These two newsletters in particular are well worth reading, and I look up to and respect both for their great writing about naturism.
